New website and massive update

Hi everyone,

I’ve not updated on here for absolutely ages because my website has been given a once over by my dear friend Pete Turner – thank you so much Pete!

Last time I updated was in March 2021 and since then I’m pleased to announce I got a DYCP Arts Council England grant in May. I’m using the grant to receive some creative mentoring from the awesome Kathy Hinde and lessons in how to use MAX by Matthew Olden which will all lead towards a residency in Jan 2022 which I’ll let folks know about later. I won’t go on about it too much but it’s meant a lot to me to get this grant and working with Kathy so far has been amazing. Just makes you think in different ways.

Since the new year I’ve been working with Feral Productions on a couple of projects as their sound designer which is a pretty new area for me. ‘Last Call’ is a site specific poetry, film, audio, and theatre project where poems written by Jean Atkin have been staged in and around phone boxes in Herefordshire. Lots of action shots here: The films will be released in about 3 weeks time. More details on a blog post Jean did here. We’ve also been working on a project called ‘Return’ which is an audio installation for The Courtyard in Hereford. This will be open to the public from the end of August and I’ll post more details as I get them.

Here’s a photograph of Jean, Estelle (head of Feral Productions) and me outside a phonebox on a field recording mission:

Kathy Hinde has been giving me some compositional advice on a few projects, one is a sound installation piece that will be shown as part of a group show me and my Ebor Studio buddies are organising. We received funding from Manchester International Festival at the start of the year to run the show so big thanks to them for the support. The show will be at St Chad’s Church in Rochdale on the 15th July between 2-7pm. Artists involved are Alison Cooper, Natalie Sharp, Matthew Quick, Maryanne Royle and me. More details on the Ebor page. Maryanne, Alison and I will be at MIF talking about the project next Thursday at Festival Square. More details about that event here.

Other than all this stuff, I’ve got a gig on this weekend at Timber Festival that was suppose to be on last year so I’m looking forward to that. Last thing for now, the always incredible Yorkshire Sound Women Network interviewed me on their podcast series which you can listen to here:

Take care all,

Sof x
